Despite Nielsen being a century old audience rating system, it still faces challenges to its efforts from different quarters. Such is the case with Netflix denying any insights regarding their audience retention released by Nielsen. Even with the data firm bringing in a new “listening” technology similar to what Spotify uses. According to the New York Times, Netflix is still not sold on Nielsen’s new initiative to gauge their audience, citing the data as inaccurate.
A yield statement from the company reads,
“The data that Nielsen is reporting is not accurate, not even close, and does not reflect the viewing of these shows on Netflix.”
While plenty of firms are attempting to disassemble the TV audience sector, few have had any success with the likes of Symphony Advanced Media shuttering their services altogether. However, the introduction of Reel Cash brings an alternative platform to gauge all streaming services and audience data.
